What's New February 2010

Add Life to Your Pool Slides and Retention Pond Shorelines

Pool Slides
With the difficult and uncertain economic times we’re all living in today many of our clients have decided to renovate their current facilities and extend the useful life of many of their amenities. pic1.gif

Homewood- Flossmoor Park District faced a dilemma of spending over $100,000 to replace their slide tower for Lions Park Pool or repair their existing tower to extend its safe use for a fraction of the replacement cost. The Park District hired the structural engineering team from W-T Civil Engineering, LLC to provide the design solutions and cost estimates to facilitate their decision making.

The original wood structure slide tower was built in 1992 and has shown its age under the normal wear and tear of seasonal use and our unforgiving Chicago weather. Rather than remove and replace the entire structure, the owners and design team developed a yearly maintenance and repair program to economically provide a safe pool slide and save the District’s taxpayers money.

Retention Pond Shoreline Protection
W-T Civil Engineering offers a unique solution to retention pond shoreline stabilizations by utilizing retaining walls, natural vegetations, rock formations, and many others.  We provide in-house designs for all these options so you can have efficient and timely solutions for your challenges.

Retaining Walls
The existing retention pond timber retaining walls for the residential community of The Colony at Lake Arlington had severely deteriorated to the point where the adjacent homes were impacted.  The Homeowner’s Association hired W-T Civil Engineering to provide the design solutions for a long-lasting and aesthetically improved wall system.  Our design included segmental retaining walls constructed with a minimum of disturbance to the homeowner’s backyards.

Natural Vegetation
The existing retention pond shoreline for the residential community of The Nantucket Cove in Schaumburg had severely eroded reducing the water quality and safety of this storm water control element.  The Homeowner’s Association hired W-T Civil Engineering to provide the design solutions to improve the aesthetics, reduce the inclination to provide fall protection, and promote a sustained wildlife habitat.  Our design included regrading and alignment of the sloping ground and installing native plantings.nat-veg-2.gif
