Projects Under Construction Almost Complete

El Moro Park, Oak Forest Park District

El Moro Park is an existing park site in Oak Forest, Illinois located at the corner of Arroyo Avenue and Victoria Drive, owned and operated by the Oak Forest Park District which was re-designed in 2010. The projects Landscape Architect, Brusseau Design Group, LLC provided site amenity design and landscape design, and hired W-T Civil Engineering, LLC to provide civil engineering design for the park’s amenity’s which included a fire pit, new stage area, reconstructed bike pathway system, sled hill, and expanded parking lot.

The existing 6 acre site had several design challenges. There were no existing Metropolitan Water Reclamation District Permits on file, so the entire park’s drainage system had to be redesigned to provide detention for the new improvements as well as the existing site. Locating the proposed detention pond was a challenge due to the extreme fall across the property. The above picture of the almost complete El Moro Park was taken from the new ski hill on site.

Projects in the Design Phase

Denning Park, Park District of La Grange

W-T Civil Engineering, LLC was hired by Cody Braun and Associates to investigate drainage issues on the existing Denning Park Site located in La Grange, IL.  An existing swale which split the existing site in half remains wet the majority of the spring, summer, and fall, and has caused several nuisances for the Park District over the history of its existence. W-T prepared a drainage study of the existing park and adjacent properties to determine why the existing swale remains denning park area map.jpgsaturated and was asked to provide design solutions to improve the drainage problem. Two concepts were presented to the Park District of La Grange’s Board which included the construction of a new piping system, and a native planted infiltration trench. The District chose to construct the native planted infiltration trench to reduce water ponding on site, and to provide a more environmentally friendly feature to the existing park. Proposed design on the new park features are to begin in July 2011. The attached picture is an aerial of the drainage divides and characteristics of Denning Park and its tributaries.

Hoffman Estates Green Recognition Program

The W-T Family of Companies was recently recognized by the Village of Hoffman Estates’ Green Business Recognition Program.  The Green Business Recognition Program (GBRP) is an education and awareness program that promotes “green” sustainability. The GBRP is open to all businesses located within the Village of Hoffman Estates, including small dscf2302.jpgand large independent business. The Mayor of Hoffman Estates, Mayor McLeod visited W-T Headquarters Friday June 24,  to present the award to W-T Engineering, Inc.

In June 2008, The Chicago Tribune said “The Bush administration is about to propose far-reaching new rules that would give people with disabilities greater access to tens of thousands of courtrooms, recreation facilities and more, and affect more than 7 million businesses as well as all state and local government agencies.” Unfortunately, that was really just a lot of hype by the Tribune. The proposed rules were issued June 17, 2008 and go a long way toward the clarification of the application of earlier regulations published in 1991. Additionally, the proposed rule incorporates some key requirements for golf courses, swimming pools, and playgrounds
