First Quarter
Although the 1st quarter was below our projections we have a couple of nice projects on the boards for the 2nd quarter of the year. We continue to be involved with various park district projects, grocery stores, animal clinics and municipal projects. Were also working on a couple of "LEED" Projects and several of our staff are "LEED" Accredited. We have completed projects utilizing Revit this year and our staff is continually being educated in Revit and Navisworks.
Project Spotlight: Elmhurst Fire Station #2
The project consists of the construction of a New Satellite Fire Station for the City of Elmhurst Fire Department located at 605 South York Road in DuPage County, Illinois. The new station is approximately 15,100 sf. The Station has 4 double deep apparatus bays and will provide bunks for 12. This project is scheduled to become "LEED" Silver Rated.
The HVAC system includes an Indoor air handling unit with variable frequency drive supply fan and hot and chilled water coils. Variable air volume terminal unties are provided for individual zoning. Hot water is provided by high efficiency condensing boilers and chilled water by an air cooled chiller. The HVAC systems can be controlled remotely through the building automation system. Radiant floor heat and a vehicle exhaust capture system is provided in the apparatus bays.
Water usage has been reduced by 20% through the use of a low-flow plumbing fixture and faucets which contribute to the buildings water conservation. The plumbing system also incorporates a high efficiency water heating system with a hot water return loop.
The use of high efficiency lighting and controls reduces electrical consumption. Occupancy sensors, dual switching and motions sensors are incorporated throughout the facility. The building utilizes a 1200 amp 120/208V 3-phase, 4 wire service with a 300KW, 375 KVA natural gas/propane dual fuel emergency generator for complete building back-up. Equipment within the building is protected from utility company electrical surges with a transient voltage surge protection device. Special systems within the building includes: a lighting protection system, backup speaker system, data, voice and television cable and outlet systems, fire alarm
system, rescue assistance intercom system, gutter and downspout de-icing system, card reader door access control system, and a security system consisting of door contacts and closed circuit television cameras and monitors.
